Restaurateur Chris Corbin is one half of the duo that turned The Ivy, Le Caprice,
J Sheekey and The Wolseley into London’s hottest eateries. At the age of 38, he was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukaemia. It was a colossal thunderbolt. After an anxious, four-year wait, a suitable bone marrow donor was found and, in 1994, Chris underwent a transplant at Hammersmith Hospital. He now chairs ‘Who’s Cooking Dinner?’. ‘I’d never done any fundraising before but this was perfect for me. I had all the credentials.’

New Zealand-born chef Peter Gordon is the ‘godfather’ of fusion cuisine, which he first introduced at The Sugar Club and continues to explore at his London restaurants The Providores and Kopapa. In 1994, he donated bone marrow to his sister Tracey, who was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia. After her full recovery, Peter wanted to help other families battling with leukaemia, and came up with ‘Who’s Cooking Dinner?’. ‘My sister is alive and well and has since become a food writer — which she attributes to my marrow!’

‘Who’s Cooking Dinner?’ is very much a part of the London restaurant world and is generously supported by many in the industry. It is the brainchild of two men, both of whose lives irrevocably changed in 1994.
